In the UK, it is recommended for children to visit a Specialist Orthodontist around the age of seven. At this age, their adult teeth have started to grow in, and their jaw is still growing - which makes it the best time to assess their bite.
We can see if your child’s bite is aligned correctly, and make sure they have enough space for their current and incoming teeth. If we think they would benefit from orthodontic intervention, we can minimise their treatment time as teens through early treatment with a functional appliance.

A functional appliance is often used to treat children with prominent upper front teeth. In a growing child, a functional brace can be used to help create a more harmonious facial profile. It does so by guiding the way the upper and lower front teeth bite together.
At our Mill Hill and Marylebone practices, we use the Twin Block, a removable appliance that guides your child’s lower jaw forward into alignment. The Twin Block is gentle, and will be comfortable for your child to wear once they adjust to it.
After treatment with a functional appliance, it is likely that your child will need braces to straighten their smile. Your child’s treatment time with braces will likely be reduced because of their functional appliance.
At Origin Orthodontics, we will ensure your child is fitted with the orthodontic brace most appropriate for their treatment needs. They may even be a candidate for Invisalign® First, an Invisalign® treatment developed specifically for the growing mouths of children.
Give your child the gift of a forever smile by bringing them in for their first orthodontic consultation.

We recommend bringing your child for an orthodontic assessment at our Mill Hill or Wimpole Street practice at around the age of 7. At this stage, we can identify any early issues with their bite, jaw development, or tooth alignment and decide on the best timing for treatment.
Signs that your child may need orthodontic treatment include crowded or overlapping teeth, difficulty chewing, mouth breathing, or an uneven bite. An orthodontic consultation here in London will help determine if and when treatment is necessary.
Your child may experience mild discomfort when they first get braces or aligners or after adjustments. However, this is temporary and usually subsides within a few days. We provide guidance on managing any soreness to ensure their treatment is as comfortable as possible.
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of the case and the type of orthodontic appliance used. On average, children’s orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from 12 to 24 months, with regular check-ups to monitor progress.
Yes, we offer flexible finance options to help make your teen's treatment more affordable. With a variety of payment plans, including interest-free options, you can spread the cost in a way that fits your budget. Our team will be happy to discuss these options during your consultation.
The journey to your child's perfect smile starts with a free consultation with our Treatment Coordinator. During this session, we'll take photos and scans, discuss the best treatment options for them, and provide an estimate of the associated costs. For a more detailed assessment, you can also schedule a specialist orthodontic consultation with Dr Usman Qureshi for a reduced fee of £75 for children under 18.
