Realign your smile & transform your life
A harmonious smile goes beyond straight teeth. When the upper and lower jaws do not align correctly, it can affect chewing, speech, breathing and even confidence. Orthognathic surgery - also known as jaw surgery - repositions the jaws to restore balance and function.
At Origin Orthodontics, our specialist orthodontist Dr Usman Qureshi partners with renowned maxillofacial surgeon Mr Manolis Heliotis to deliver life‑changing results.

Most people’s jaws are slightly mismatched, but significant differences can cause problems such as difficulty biting and chewing, speech issues, jaw pain, sleep apnoea or dissatisfaction with facial appearance.
Orthognathic surgery corrects these skeletal discrepancies by repositioning the jaw(s) under general anaesthetic. This procedure is recommended when orthodontic treatment alone can’t achieve the desired bite. Working closely together, your orthodontist and surgeon ensure your teeth and jaws fit together perfectly after surgery.
Dr Usman Qureshi is a UK‑trained Specialist Orthodontist with over 5,000 treated patients. Mr Manolis Heliotis is a leading consultant orthognathic, maxillofacial oral and facial surgeon with two decades of experience and an international reputation.
Orthognathic treatment is a partnership. We handle your pre‑ and post‑surgery orthodontics, while Mr Heliotis performs the surgical procedure in a reputable London hospital. Together we create a seamless journey from consultation to completion.
Our practice uses iTero digital scanning, digital X‑rays and in‑house 3D printing to plan your treatment with precision and comfort. These tools allow accurate simulations of your future jaw position and quicker turnaround for appliances and retainers.
Spread the cost with 0% APR financing for 24 months or longer terms up to 60 months. We’ll design a payment plan that suits your budget and explain all options clearly.

Orthognathic surgery, or jaw surgery, is a planned operation to reposition your upper jaw, lower jaw or both to improve bite, facial balance and function. It’s recommended when braces alone cannot correct significant jaw discrepancies.
You may need jaw surgery if you have difficulty biting or chewing, speech problems, facial asymmetry, jaw pain, an open bite or underbite, or sleep apnoea. A consultation with our team will determine whether surgery is the best option.
Orthognathic treatment is a long‑term process. Pre‑surgery orthodontics typically lasts 12-18 months. After surgery, a further 6-12 months of orthodontics is needed. The total treatment time is usually two to three years.
Jaw surgery can enhance facial harmony and profile, so some changes are expected. Many patients enjoy a more balanced appearance and increased confidence. Our team will discuss anticipated changes and show you digital simulations using 3D planning.
You will be under general anaesthetic during the procedure and won’t feel pain. Afterwards, some swelling and discomfort are normal, but these are managed with medication and usually improve within a few weeks.
Most patients stay in hospital for one to three nights. You’ll need to follow a soft diet for several weeks and may experience swelling and bruising. Regular follow‑ups with your surgeon and orthodontist ensure everything heals correctly. Our remote monitoring app means you can check in from home.
Jaw surgery is a well‑established procedure performed by experienced teams. As with any surgery, there are risks such as infection, nerve injury or relapse, but these are rare. Mr Heliotis will discuss potential complications and how they are managed so you can make an informed decision.
